Public Invited to Celebrate Growth of Josephine Sculpture Park

Growth is exciting, and sometimes challenging, but it brings new opportunities. Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) will be celebrating the culmination of several years of growth, thanks to the support of many donors, at the Grow With Us Celebration on Wednesday, May 24th from 5-7pm. The celebration is open to the public and we hope to see you there!

This event will begin at the amphitheater near one of our newest additions to the JSP landscape, Metamorpho-Nest, by Andrea Wilson Mueller of Inside Out Landscape Design. This sculptural landscape installation reimagined the natural area surrounding the amphitheater, repurposing the invasive bush honeysuckle into oversized nests, inviting visitors to explore within. Several volunteer events were held throughout 2022 in partnership with Kentucky State University and Remove Invasives Partnership of Franklin County, inviting community members to help remove and repurpose natural materials for the installation.

The event will culminate at the historic tobacco barn to debut a new sculpture, From a Tiny Seed, by Matthew and Karine Maynard of Maynard Studios and enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. The sculpture is dedicated to the generous donors to the JSP Capital Campaign who donated $1,000 or more. JSP’s Capital Campaign began in 2018 with the goal to secure 10 acres of land adjacent to the Park, and to re-imagine the historic tobacco barn as an event venue. In 2022, this goal was achieved. In addition, Art and Beverly VanHouten gifted an adjacent 10 acres of land, known as the Firefly Forest. “We’re so proud to celebrate the support of our donors, and excited for what the future holds for JSP,” shares founding director Melanie VanHouten, “This is just the beginning!”
