Meet JSP's Board of Directors

Meet the members of JSP's Board of Directors

Josephine Sculpture Park thanks our Board of Directors for their volunteer commitment each day to governing and helping to ensure the long-term success of the organization. In addition to being general members, these individuals also serve on board committees and assist with other JSP programs and campaigns. We are proud to introduce our amazing Board of Directors.

Andrew Marsh serves as JSP's Board Chair and Executive Officer.  He is an avid sculptor and owner of Lucky 7 Arts, LLC, assistant director for the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research, and program officer for the Leigh Ann Conn Prize for Renewable Energy at the University of Louisville. Andrew is also a JSP exhibiting artist and former artist in residence. Andrew explains the roots from which JSP grows in the video below, standing with his two sculptures on exhibit at JSP, Function of Toole and Scar Garden.

Carol Baughman serves as the Secretary and advocacy representative. Carol is a retired librarian who dedicated her career to serving children and youth. She shares, "I am devoted to JSP because it is unique and important to our community and to the region. Its mission focus on art and the environment is critical. With the possible exception of the public library, I believe there is no other organization in Franklin County that serves such a wide range of ages, interests, and personal needs.  JSP is a respite for so many, even those who only want a place to walk their dogs. There is nothing else quite like JSP."

Garth Waterfield is the board Treasurer. He is the Senior Vice President of Investors Heritage. Garth shares, "My wife, daughters and I love to spend our spare time at the park, enjoying the scenery and all the art! This place is unique in every aspect. We are very proud to have [JSP] here in the Frankfort community. I'm proud to be a part of the organization."

Joyce Bender's career and volunteer work has been dedicated to land management, knowledge which she applies to guide JSP in the recovery of old pastures to wildflower meadows and forested cover, increasing the diversity of plants and animals which results in enhancing environmental education opportunities for volunteers and visitors. "JSP’s importance to people in our community is wonderful to behold," Joyce reflects, "Participants at special events really reveal their appreciation and delight at what’s happening here. Watching families walking the grounds with their children, you know memories are being made. This safe space is so critical to our wellbeing. Kentucky is fortunate to be able to share in Melanie’s [JSP Founding Director] vision and generous spirit."

Krystal Conway-Cunningham, otherwise known as Mrs. C-squared, is an educator with Frankfort Independent School District (FIS), artist, and co-owner of C-squared Creations 502, LLC with her wife, Tisa. Krystal enjoys bringing FIS students to JSP for field trips and advising on community and educational programming.

Emma McClellan serves on the board, providing guidance on artist programming and accessibility. She is a sculptor, JSP exhibiting artist, and occupational therapist with University of Kentucky Healthcare. Listen to what Emma works to preserve through her board membership below. In the video, Emma stands in front of her sculpture on exhibit, titled Suspended in Water or Air.

This year, JSP welcomed two new board members, Theodore T. Myre, Jr.  (Tad) and Ann Mullins. Tad brings legal guidance to the board. During his term, Tad looks forward to broadening his horizons and "producing the satisfaction of helping a good organization."

Ann brings experience in the arts, landscape architecture, business management, and local government. Ann joins the JSP Board of Directors as a longtime supporter and visitor, whose family has shared several special memories at the Park over the years. "I would love to be part of guiding this beautiful blending of landscape and art," Ann shares. "Not just for the value of the art and the setting, but for the importance of the educational programs that have been developed and the awareness of our changing environment that has become part of JSP’s mission."

Ensuring the organization's financial sustainability is key to the board's function, as well. "JSP is a maturing organization," Carol explains, "As such, the significant thing now is its future financial security. I hope to help the board identify individuals who can and will make significant financial commitments to the park. These will ensure the existence of JSP as well as its continued growth, creativity, and contributions to the community. I want JSP to be here for the families of those children who are enjoying it today." Learn how you can support the park here.

Thank you to JSP's Board of Directors for all they do to enable our mission to connect people to each other and the land through the arts - today and for generations to come.
