Kentucky State University Cooperative Extension Educational Programs at JSP

Kentucky State University Cooperative Extension Program staff create educational resources at JSP

For several years, The Kentucky State University Cooperative Extension Program (KSUCEP) has partnered with Josephine Sculpture Park as an educational site for virtual and in-person programs and hands-on learning opportunities for KSU students.

As stated on their website, "The KSUCEP offers a broad array of educational programs related to agriculture and natural resources, community development, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H Youth Development." At JSP, KSUCEP staff have focused on sustainability and natural resource conservation projects.

This year, JSP and Kasia Bradley, Extension Associate with the Kentucky State University Forestry and Natural Resources Program, achieve a mutual goal of sharing conservation and land management learning opportunities with the public. Bradley is developing content and preparing sites for a virtual program about maintaining native tree saplings (forthcoming). Reforestation is an important part of JSP's work to provide wildlife habitat, support soil health, and increase biodiversity. Reestablishing forests also helps address noise and light pollution that disturb animal habitats. You can visit JSP to observe our native tree saplings, marked by pink tape and bamboo sticks, and how they are being managed.

Nat Colten, Community Sustainability Coordinator at Kentucky State University, used JSP as an educational site this spring to create a virtual program showing viewers how to build a rainwater capture system step-by-step (below). As stated in the video description, "Storing rainwater is a cost-effective and environmentally conscious way to conserve water and reduce stormwater runoff." Be sure to check out the video description for links to extension publications that contain more detailed information about collecting rainwater for different uses. You can check out JSP's rainwater capture system in person at our event barn.

JSP is proud to partner with KSUCEP to help fulfill each of our missions and share educational programs with the public. Learn more about JSP's conservation work here. Discover our other program partners here.
