Lex Phil Returns to JSP for Symphonic Stroll’s Third Year

Lexington Philharmonic returns to Josephine Sculpture Park for Symphonic Stroll’s third year

Performers will include Frankfort’s own jazz great Dr. Keith McCutchen

On Saturday, September 9th from 4-8pm, Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) visitors will discover Lexington Philharmonic (LexPhil) musicians performing at sculptures across the Park’s 30 acres of trails.

Symphonic Stroll brought the two arts organizations together for the first time in 2021. “We couldn’t have been happier with the event, the crowd, or the weather. We watched visitors who’d never been to the Park before follow the music to find ensembles paired with our sculptures. It was like a dream come true,” shares Melanie VanHouten, founder and director of JSP.

This year’s event will highlight seven locations throughout the Park, such as Fly Away by Céline Browning and The Porch Project: Take it to the Bridge by Heather Hart. LexPhil performances will feature oboe, flute, harp, a string quartet, and more, plus an interactive sound installation and hands-on MusicLab.

New this year, world renowned jazz pianist and Kentucky State University Associate Professor of Music,
Dr. Keith McCutchen, will perform as a special guest with LexPhil’s string quartet in the event barn. Also new this year, LexPhil Music Director, Mélisse Brunet, will introduce select ensemble performances at sculptures throughout the night!

Food trucks will be onsite to provide dinner and snacks for purchase, including Amazing Gracie’s, King Gyros and Sav’s Chill, along with beverages from Pucker Up Lemonade, West Sixth Brewing and a water station provided by Frankfort Plant Board.

“The event occurs between 4-8pm with two timed entries and multiple repeat performances across the Park. This gives folks time to arrive and explore at their own pace,” shares Jeri Katherine Howell, JSP Assistant Director. “This event provides a truly unique art, nature and music experience for all ages. Symphonic Stroll has become JSP visitors’ favorite event. You don’t want to miss it!”

A limited number of tickets are available at $25 for adults, $11 for students and youth ages 17 and under, and free for children ages 10 and under. Visit
