Lexington Philharmonic Returns to Josephine Sculpture Park for Symphonic Stroll’s second year

On Saturday, September 10th from 4-8pm, Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) visitors will discover Lexington Philharmonic (LexPhil) musicians performing at artworks across the Park’s 30-acres of trails.

Symphonic Stroll brought the two arts organizations together for the first time in 2021. “We couldn’t have been happier with the event, the crowd, or the weather. We watched visitors who’d never been to the Park before follow the music to find ensembles paired with our sculptures. It was like a dream come true,” shares Melanie VanHouten, founder and director of JSP.

This year’s event will highlight eight locations throughout the Park, including the historic tobacco barn, pond, and several new sculptures, like Sky Chamber by Daniel Shieh. LexPhil performances at these locations will feature woodwinds, trumpets, cellos, percussion, harp, and a string quartet, plus an interactive sound installation and a hands-on activity.

Food trucks will be onsite to provide dinner and snacks for purchase, along with beverages from West Sixth Brewing and a water bottle refill station. “The event occurs between 4-8pm with timed entry and multiple repeat performances across the Park. This gives folks plenty of time to arrive and explore at their own pace,” shares Jeri Katherine Howell, JSP Program Director. “You can grab a bite to eat from a food truck, hear the music, and discover over 70 pieces of artwork among our native plant and wildlife habitat restoration projects.”

An event this large takes many hands, and the Park is grateful for volunteers. “We still have a few volunteer spots available! Volunteers receive a JSP t-shirt and complimentary admission to the event. It's a great way to become a part of the JSP team and make new friends,” adds Jeri Katherine, who manages volunteers.

A limited number of tickets are available at $25 for adults and $11 for youth ages 17 and under. Children age 2 and under are free. Visit
